My Unforgettable School Volunteer Day
Last weekend, our class organized a volunteer activity to help clean the community park, and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences this year.
Early on Saturday morning, I put on my old jacket and met my classmates at the school gate. Our teacher, Ms. Li, gave us a brief introduction: “Today, we’ll pick up litter, clean the benches, and plant small trees. This is not just about making the park beautiful—it’s about learning to care for our environment.” I felt excited because I’ve always wanted to do something useful for the community.
When we arrived, the park was messier than I expected. There were plastic bottles and paper bags everywhere, and some benches were covered in dirt. We divided into groups: my group was in charge of cleaning the flower beds. At first, I was a little shy to ask for help, but my classmate Tom was very friendly—he handed me a pair of gloves and said, “Let’s work together; it’ll be faster.” We spent two hours picking up litter, and even though my back felt tired, I didn’t want to stop.
After lunch, we started planting trees. Our teacher showed us how to dig holes and put the young trees in properly. “Remember to water them every week if you pass by,” she told us. I looked at the small tree I planted and thought, “I hope it grows tall and strong.” At that moment, I realized how important it is to protect nature.
When we finished, the park looked completely different—clean and full of life. A few elderly people walking by smiled and said, “Thank you, kids. You’ve done a great job!” I felt proud of what we’d achieved. On the way home, I chatted with Tom about the day. “We should do this more often,” he said, and I agreed.
This volunteer day taught me that small actions can make a big difference. It wasn’t just about cleaning or planting—it was about working as a team, caring for others, and understanding our responsibility to the environment. I’ll never forget this day, and I’m already looking forward to our next community activity.
